Building something special for Wigan

Fettlers is Wigan’s most ambitious regeneration project, transforming the former galleries shopping centre into a vibrant new neighbourhood at the heart of the town centre. This nationally significant development, delivered in partnership between Wigan Council and regeneration specialists Cityheart, will feature a centrally located market hall, a new public square, a 144-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel, and over 400 high-quality homes. Designed to be a dynamic destination, Fettlers will be a place where people can live, work, shop, play and visit.

The Journey Starts Here

  • 1877

    Fettlers is the start of a new era for Wigan town centre. Transforming the former Galleries site, this landmark regeneration will create a vibrant neighbourhood with a market hall, public square, hotel and over 400 new homes; a place designed for living, working, meeting and exploring, right at the heart of the town.

  • 1988

    A new shopping centre took shape and brought fresh bustle into town. People came for bargains, big days out and a bit of normal life. The spirit of Wigan carried on through it all.

  • 2025

    Fettlers is becoming a place for food, homes and good company in the centre of Wigan. It is shaped by local stories and a sense of pride in what the town can be. The community that has always been here is still at the heart of it.

    Fettlers celebrates Wigan’s proud history of making, building and crafting: Fettling. Inspired by the town’s history of Fettling, dates all the way back to the Roman times, through to the industrial revolution and now today; Fettlers is a new neighbourhood in the heart of Wigan, bringing together a new Market Hall, Hampton by Hilton hotel, leisure facilities, public spaces and over 400 new homes.
  • Where is Fettlers?
    Smack bang in the middle of Wigan town centre! Fettlers is taking shape on the former Galleries site, right by the bus station and just a five-minute walk from the train stations. In other words, you can't miss it.
  • When will the Hampton by Hilton Hotel open?
    The Hampton by Hilton Hotel will open Winter 2027.
  • When will the new market hall open?
    Wigan Market at Fettlers will open in spring 2027.
